At OB/GYN Care Orlando, we offer in-house non-stress tests (NSTs) to our expectant mothers who need further screening. The NST is a 20-40 minute test during which the patient is reclined and attached to non-invasive fetal and uterine monitors. These tests may be ordered when there is any concern, such as decreased fetal movement, high blood pressure, increased blood sugar, or advanced maternal age. The fetal monitor allows the provider to track the baby’s heartbeat for a sustained amount of time and recognize any accelerations or decelerations, which may either indicate a healthy baby or prompt further testing such as ultrasonography. It is beneficial to have this test on location because our providers can triage patients here if they have any concerns that arise during the routine obstetric appointment, thereby potentially saving a trip to the hospital.
