The wrinkles and fine lines that appear on your skin as you get older are the result of several combined factors, including natural changes, environmental influences, and the long-term effects of repeated facial
muscle use.
If you wish to smooth out your wrinkles or add volume to your face, you have several treatment options. In order to treat your wrinkles appropriately, we need to know which type of wrinkles need treatment; dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles appear when you make specific facial expressions or movements with your face. Dynamic wrinkles include frown lines between the eyebrows (also known as "elevens"), forehead wrinkles, crow's feet at the corner of the eyes, smile lines in the mid-cheek, and lip lines. Because dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle contractions, the most appropriate way for improvement is to minimize muscle contractions.
As we know, dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle contraction. Neuromodulators, or Botox, is an FDA-approved medication that temporarily paralyzes the muscles thereby softening fine lines and wrinkles leaving you with smooth, youthful skin. You may begin to notice subtle changes after 36-48 hours, however, complete results can take up to 10-14 days. Effects last 3-4 months depending on dose.
Static wrinkles are lines and creases that remain permanent on your face. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles occur primarily from natural lossof elasticity and collagen in our skin. As we age, our skin's collagen
starts to break down, which leads to volume loss and sagging in our face. As a result, folds and creases (static wrinkles) develop. Additional causes include smoking, genetics, extended exposure to harsh environments, and poor nutrition.
Dermal fillers, or Juvederm, are the best way to reduce static wrinkles and folds because they replace lost volume. Dermal fillers are medically developed gel that is made from Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found within the body. Fillers are placed directly beneath the unwanted fold or wrinkle, which lifts and smooths the skin. Dermal fillers offer immediate results as well as the added benefits of plumpness and a well-contoured face. Dermal fillers generally last 1-2 years depending on the product being used and where the product is placed in your face.
